Πέμπτη, 07 Νοέμβριος 2013 00:00

Our students (Greek and Spanish) will be exchanging information about themselves, their families, schools, hobbies etc, and through those descriptions, they will be able to compare and contrast the different cultures.

Subjects: Art, Citizenship, Foreign Languages, Geography, History of Culture, Informatics / ICT, Language and Literature
Aims: Students are encouraged to meet students from another country and possibly become friends. Their communicational skills in English will be improved, as well as their technological ones. Their cultural awareness will be raised, something that will help them overcome any possible prejudices.
Work process: Every month we are going to deal with a different topic directly related to our students' interests. For example, in November we are going to introduce ourselves through personal profiles, which we are going to exchange through Twinspace.

Project details

We work together and we create a Powerpoint presentation and an e-book with fairy-tales of our countries. The presentation also contains scanned pupils’ pictures and music from their own country. The final presentation is published on the Internet. Our students become friends with each other and through communication they are given the chance to improve their foreign language skills and develop cultural awareness.

  • Subjects: Cross Curricular, Foreign Languages, Informatics / ICT, Language and Literature
  • Languages: EN
  • Pupil's age: 9 - 11
  • Tools to be used: Chat, e-mail, Forum, MP3, Other software (Powerpoint, video, pictures and drawings), Project Diary, Twinspace, Video conference, Virtual learning environment (communities, virtual classes, ...), Web publishing
  • Aims: ü Pupils learn to work together on an ICT-based project with their counterparts from abroad and develop their ICT as well as social skills. ü Pupils develop their competence in English and develop cultural awareness. ü Teachers learn to integrate ICT-based projects at primary level. Hide
  • Work process: ü The classes start communication to get to know each other and provide information about themselves, their school and their customs. ü Each country chooses a typical tale from their country and send it to their counterparts. ü In each class, the children read and discuss the given fairytale in their mother tongue. ü The fairytale is illustrated and recorded by the class. ü The pupils in each class establish the scenes to be illustrated and divide the work. Pupils use various techniques to design/draw the scenes. The pictures are photographed and scanned. Then, the classes exchange and print them. ü The digital pictures made by pupils in both classes are put together in two PowerPoint presentations. ü Each class creates an audio track for their PowerPoint presentation version of the fairytale in their mother tongue and in English. ü Pupils also create and e-book. ü Both classes listen to the others' fairytale in their partners' language and compare and contrast the fairytales. Hide
  • Expected results: ü The final presentations are published on the Internet (on school websites and in the public “TwinSpace”) ü Pupils are motivated and understand the importance of learning foreign languages. They may look for the same, similar or different words. They may also compare the spoken and the written form of the fairytale. ü They develop their creative, linguistic and ICT skills -students broaden their knowledge about other countries in Europe hide
